How can we adopt the ancient wisdom of mindfulness, so that we can be fully awake to the present moment in a way that every breath and step we take, can be filled with peace, joy and serenity and we can also also become more productive ?

1a. Become aware of your Breath

Our breathing is our link between body and mind. Practise conscious breathing by being aware of your breath coming in and going out and saying "in" and "out" as you breathe, allowing yourself to recover and be fully in the present moment.

Breathing in say " Breathing in I calm my body"ch in you may want to say "Breathing in I calm my body"

1b. Smile as often as you can

Start every day with an intention to be balanced and peaceful. Smiling when you wake up helps you to approach the day with gentleness and understanding. Your smile affirms your determination to live in peace, and brings happiness to you and all those around you. Whenever you can during the day, pause and practise the following:

Breating in I calm my body

Breathing out I smile" - Thich Nhat Hanh

2. Practise silence each day

Setting aside time each day for meditation or silence brings amazing changes to your life, and keeps an equilibrium in your life,. Simply in the process of letting go, allows things to unfold. The time you take to "tune" yourself up ends up improving your efficiency, your health and your relationships. Meditation has anti-aging effects, allows you to become more relaxed, and more intuitive.

"Learn to be silent, let your quiet mind listen and absorb"- Pythagorus

3. Practise Solitude

In cultures all over the world there is a tradition and respect for time alone. We each need a sacred place, where we can draw inspiration from solitude, whether it be a corner of the bedroom, by the ocean or in the forest.

Solitude is your time for renewal, contemplation and creation.

4. Change your perspective

We grow up believing in struggle and we learn to force things and push people, wearing ourselves out and learning the hard way. Peace is balance and means aligning with forces rather than fighting them. Letting go allows things to flow.Being peaceful means seeing the broader picture and not being caught up in the details.

"When we try to pick anything out by itself we find it hitched up to everything else in the universe"- John Muir

5. Practise Mindfulness

You can use any sound to remind you to return to yourself, to pause, to breathe in and out, and to enjoy the present moment. Anything can be a bell of mindfulness, a bell, a buzzer, even rays of sunlight.

Try eating a meal and tasting every mouthful, or take a walk and see every tree. At first you may find your mind is somewhere else, but with practice you will keep your balance longer.Treat everything as a new experience

"At any moment, I could start being a better person - but which moment should I choose?" - Ashleigh Brilliant

6. Refuse to live life in a hurry

.When our belief system says "there is never anough time", guess what. There never is enough time.

Whatever you have to do, tell yourself " My full attention is on what I am doing. How long it takes is how long it takes. I refuse to hurry.

Affirm to yourself "I have plenty of time", especially when you are pressed for time

7. Practice Gratitude

Peace of mind comes from focussing on what you have and being thankful for it, and not on what is missing. When you are thankful you are accepting of your life and you are a affirming that everything that comes on your path is to serve you, and that you are learning what you need to learn.

"If the only prayer you say in your whole life is 'thank you' that would suffice"- Meister Eckhardt.

Mora Story"If you haven't got time to relax, you simply must do it"

When you take on daily relaxation, your life will run more smoothly.Another benefit is that when you feel peaceful, you will attract more peaceful people and situations to you. Angry people will go looking for fights elsewhere!

What to do when you lose your peace.

Everytime you have an argument or a major problem with someone or something isn't working out, retreat and sit quietly by yourself, practising your breathing, feeling yourself relax. Feel yourself accepting the person or situation and send love in what ever way you choose. When we choose love we automatically have peace. Each of us has the choice to sow seeds of peace and love, or seeds of resentment and anger. Change your thoughts and your feelings will change. You will be surprised at the results.

First work on making yourself more peaceful, and then work on making your little corner of the world more peaceful.
